ELEFANTE ROJO

RED ELEPHANT

Wise is nature, and so are the elephants that live in Tsavo Park National Park, southeast Kenya. We are surprised when we enter the reserve and discover the first herd of crimson elephants, as if they were dyed all over their bodies. This characteristic color is due to the red earth baths that occur after submerging in a river or lake, to get rid of pests and pesky insects.

This reddish tone also serves to blend the young with the environment, of the same tone, and thus avoid being discovered by their main predator, the lion.

It is an enjoyment for the senses to see them frolic and play in the water after a long and tedious walk in the scorching sun.
